An inspirational book

I joined a book club sometime in late 2019. They had just started reading a book entitled “Excuses Begone” by Dr Wayne Dyer. And I must say, it was a hugely inspirational book.

I would argue that it can help you put your life back on track. If you have not already read it, then I strongly and empathically suggest you take the time to read it right now!

I would not want to be a spoiler and tell you everything that happens from the book. So instead, I will share a few inspirational quotes which I loved from the book. In the next months, I would keep sharing these and other lessons and quotes I have gleaned from other books as well.

The quotes

In today’s post, I will limit myself to five quotes from the book. I will simply list them with a brief statement on each.

Chapter 1

Quote # 1

“You can change your circumstance of life and the way you percieve things”

Life throws up a lot of ups and downs. For example, two people may have lost their jobs in the hospitality industry during these COVID-19 times. However, their response to this same event is what sets them apart.

For one person, he may seek self-employment. And another person could be looking for a job in the same industry that forced him out in the first place.

As you can see, one sees it as an opportunity to start his own business whilst another sees no benefit in the circumstances at all.

Quote # 2

“All that we are is the result of what we have thought”

All that we are in life is as a result of the choices we have made. Therefore, before you make any actions you would have

  • thought about it thoroughly first
  • these thoughts then lead you to take actions
  • or prehaps lead you not to act at all

Watch your thoughts. For in the end, sooner or later it will lead you to the destination you desired.

Chapter 2

Quote # 3

“We are not bound to our characters by our DNA or genes”

This point reminds me among other things about Black Lives Matter ( #BLM ). The color of your skin should not restrict you to a station in life. Other factors like your ethnicity, gender, height and religion should not be a barrier to how high you can aspire to in life.

This quote is supported by another quote in Chapter 2, which sums the message up all perfectly. The quote is “You should choose your life’s situation. You should not let your life situations place or locate you”

Quote # 4

“The hell to be endured is no worse than the hell we make for ourselves in this world by continually fashioning our characters in the wrong way”

We are what we are in life because of our habits. If we let our bad habits dictate our lives, then we would be led on a downward spiral. However, if we force and discipline ourselves. And make us straight with good, virtuous habits then there is no limit to how high we can rise.

Quote # 5

“A man is what he wills himself to be.”

We can become anything we want. Even at your age. You can still change careers and become the most successful in any career you choose. You can build up your muscles. You can write. You can do whatever it is that you set your mind to doing. You simply must want to do it.

Conclusion

They are many many powerful quotes from Chapters 1 and 2. However, I would not be fair to the author of the book if I were to give them all away.

However from the first 2 Chapters I cannot stop myself from sharing this quote by Mark Twain. It says so much on so many levels.

“Habit is habit, and not to be flung out of the window by any man, but coaxed down the stars a step at a time”

Mark Twain Habit QUote

It is on this highly motivational quote that I would like to leave you. Go buy the book and read the inspirational content directly from its pages yourself.

I wish you a wonderful reading experience. Till we meet again later.

Cheers!
