  • If you want to go fast, then go alone.
  • If you want to go further, then go with a team.

This all goes without saying that if you want to truly succeed, then have an awesome team behind you. Nothing great is ever achieved in silo or alone. And for that reason, if for nothing at all, then you need a crew to back you up.

Teams are present in every domain. Here are a few domains that the impact of teams are most evident;

  1. In military campaigns:

In military campaigns, it has never been recorded that one man won a war. Maybe movies like Rambo, may be the exception. However in real life, that has never been the case.

Even great generals needed armies. You can see this with popular examples such as;

  • Spartacus with his slave army
  • Napoleon and the French army that conquered a great portion of Europe
  • And all great Roman consuls with their legions

They have all needed strength of numbers behind them to win the effort. Without the support of their armies, as well as their supporting soldiers, those battles would have been lost.

  1. In sports:

Think of football teams. All the great football squads won lots of trophies because collectively they were greater than the sum of their individual parts. For instance, even though Messi is seen as one of the best players of all time, he has a good team of professionals to play alongside. For even Messi alone cannot play against eleven players by himself. He would be beaten, by the worst team in the worst league in the world, on any day rain or shine.

  1. In business:

Whether you think of startups, or the fortune 500 companies, the founding members needed to bound together to kick the business off the ground.

  • Mark Zuckerberg needed a team.
  • Bill Gates needed a team.
  • Jeff Bezos needed a team.
  • Steve Jobs needed a team.

All these giants of the industry needed a team to start out. These teams even have a team behind the team (that is the board). This team behind the team want to make sure that the business is profitable. It is totally unimaginable to think that businesses can survive on purely a single man’s effort. Businesses built on only one individual are surely the sort of businesses certain to go bankrupt sooner rather than later.

  1. In family:

The concept of teams begins from the home. Families come together to cook meals, plan birthdays, outings and so much more.

For instance, raising up children alone is never easy.  Look at the results of children raised by single parents versus those raised who had both parents around. Those raised by both parents are able to contribute more, and also participate in a very beneficial manner to their peers.

  1. Even in fiction:

In fiction, super heroes bound together to achieve a greater goal. When an enemy comes on the scene who is too tough for just one of them, then they all come together. This is obvious with the;

  • Justice League.
  • The Avengers.
  • Defenders of the Earth.

Anyways, this is remember this is just fiction, so these groups do not really exist.

You cannot do it alone. Find a team to stick to and roll with. The team would naturally form together. Do not over think this process. Simply join a team of like-minded individuals.

A few words of advice before I leave you.

  • Do not abuse the confidence placed in you by your colleagues, superiors or subordinates.
  • Remember to be around for each other in the good and bad times.
  • Do not impose yourself nor your ideas on them.

They will be sure to help you out on the items you want to achieve out of life. Thank you for sticking with me. Until next time, have a lovely week.
