For the love of the game and world cup glory 32 of the best teams have gathered in Russia. Today, we briefly look at these teams. These are my opinions on each team. Today we profile the Saudi Arabian team.

One of the most enduring images of the 1994 World Cup and also the best solo goals ever scored is that of Saeed Al Owairan dribbling past players in Belgian players in a manner similar to Maradona in 1986.

In 1994, they were able to progress to the round of 16. And since then they have never progressed as far.

Saudi Arabia are big fish in Asia, however on the international stage, they have very little to show. Two things are for certain,

  • they would want to avoid the embarrassing exits like the one they suffered in 2002 ( by being hammered 8 nil by Germany.
  • They would want to build on the years of World cup experience they have gained these past years.

Likely hero

Fahad Al-Muwallad is the man whose goal qualified his nation to the World Cup. The Levante bound player is set to cause other teams problems in this World Cup.

Achilles’ heel

Between the time they qualified and the start of the World Cup, they have already sacked 2 coaches. This could mean instability in the team.

Did you know

Did you know Saudi Arabia are the 1st Asian team to play in the opening match of a World Cup
